Freaking cold water. That was the very first thing she noticed, and she got a nice big gulp of it in her lungs because of the shock. One would think in the summer, water would be warmer at the surface, right? Lies. It was all lies. Every wave brought her further down into the cold, and for a moment, she let it, eyes blinking furiously against the salt water, unable to move at all. She had to see. She had to. Swimming up wasn't an option, but diagonally was, and just before she'd completely and utterly run out of breath, she broke the surface, coughing up all that Atlantic water. For a moment, she was stunned, just being thrown around by the waves, shivering, and then there was a disappearing flash of green to her right, further away from the boat. She braced herself; damnit, her skin was already going numb, and dove under the waves, letting the pull take her in that direction. Ick. She hated cold water. When she broke the surface a second time, Ella was just out of her reach, and one more wave brought her just past the girl. "Ella!" More water in her mouth, as she grabbed hold of the girl, holding her above the water as best as she could, pulling on the rope to let them know to pull them up. Hopefully they were watching, for she was sure the waves were pulling the extra around anyways. "Stay with me, Ella." Juls did her best, even in the moving water, to loop the rope around the other girl too. |

It was hard to see. In the water, they looked like two dots; they were two dots that kept disappearing beneath the crashing waves. Tanya swallowed, keeping watch and gratefully letting Mark--hey look, reporters were good for something--take over where she was. Seeing the rope shake just a little bit at the bottom, she nodded and turned back to them. "Okay. She's got her." She didn't have any upper body strength herself? But she figured she could help as well; at least until they were up there. She'd also grabbed two blankets off the free bed in her room, and she had those next to her purse. True, towels would have been better- but she didn't have any idea where she might find towels. Adding herself to the line, she simply heaved as hard as she could. What else was there? |

It was a good thing the rope was strong enough or else...well there would have been a awful incident then right? It was a good thing the people pulling were strong enough to do the job because as they pulled it was evident it was working. It took some time but eventually both girls were pulled up enough to be at the railing... Well bravo, you've saved another one haven't you? |

Holding onto someone who was practically dead weight while below-zero-degree waters were bashing you around, and trying to hold on to the now slippery rope was quite a feat, and once they had gotten to the first level (passing, of course, the dead mess on the third, and then the second), Juls handed Ella off to waiting arms, hanging onto the rail for a moment before she found a second wind and climbed over them. The winds were sharp, and she was shivering, but she managed to stand there and slowly untie the looping and knotting. It gave her something to focus on. "She swallowed a lot of water." Even her voice was shaking, teeth chattering. "And she hit the water hard enough to be sliding in and out of consciousness when I got there." Finally the ropes were off, and she started squeezing out her dress, even though her grip on the whole squeezing part wasn't doing much help. Her hair hand in thick, dripping bundles down her back and over her shoulders, but her primary concern was for Ella. Hypothermia, liquid in her lungs, possible broken bones? |

Amaris finally took in a deep breath of air as they had managed to pull in Juls and Ella from the water. That was definitely a feat. She let go of the rope when both Ella and Juls were safely on board. The palms of her hand were rubbed raw and slightly bleeding from having gripped the rope so strongly. She figured the water was near freezing by the way Juls was shaking and shivering. Remembering small bits and pieces of information she went over to Juls and looked at her in an apologizing way before she hugged her tightly, "Sorry, but you need warmth to raise your body temperature, promote blood circulation especially in the limbs, and prevent something extreme like hypothermia." No she wasn't a healer, but she read. In fact she read a lot, and it served to know information at times like this. She also read enough to know that after a fall like that, Ella must have had more than her decent share of broken bones. Poor thing. Edited by Amaris Tudor, Jun 14 2009, 03:32 AM.

There were spider webs of blood on her palm from where she yanked on the rope; blisters and sores were splitting over. She'd need to wash them a third time and get new pairs of gloves, huh? Hauling them both over, Tanya immediately nodded to all three of those who had helped to indicate help bringing them inside as well. Except, she didn't nod to Andy to help Juls--she'd heard the comment, and was more than positive they didn't need that right now. So she picked Ella up..or she tried, and Mark came to help her...and immediately headed inside, wrapping her in the blanket. The lists of what could have happened -- to them both, actually-- were running through her head as she moved instantly. Warmth was a must, but it had to be monitored. Otherwise Ella could go into shock, if her body wasn't ready to handle that. She seemed to be breathing on her own, but Tanya still sort of wanted to get her coughing- if there was water in her lungs...and clearly there were broken bones... Yes, the list just kept growing. Thankful for Mark's help, and wrapping her into the blanket still- Tanya said in a firm, no-nonsense manner, "We need to all get out of this wind." It was dark outside, with a freezing cross wind, and Juls had been in that water too. All of them were getting wet, honestly-- you don't hold soaking girls and help them up without that happening. Merlindammit, so much could be wrong. So she pushed for them all to go inside...and to go back to her room. Well it was the makeshift infirmary. Edited by Tanya Swann, Jun 14 2009, 03:34 AM.

Juls just laughed a little bit, a quiet, trembling laugh, but a laugh none-the-less, as Ama hugged her. "Now you're just getting all wet and these are the only clothes we have..." She answered, moving only when Tanya said they needed to get out of the wind. "Thank you." She said to Amaris, heading back in to check on Jordan. There had been a few blankets on the extra bed they could wrap Ella in, and it was going to take a little bit more than... Oh right. Hypothermia killed. |

Okay no she hadn't exactly thought that part over. Amaris just shook her head and laughed as well, more at herself and less at the situation. "You dived into the freaking ocean. I think I can handle wet clothes." she finished with a small smile before reminding herself to repeat that in her head whenever she started doubting said ability to cope with things. Besides, it wasn't as if she was partial to the dress anyways. What with it being torn, bloodied, cried upon, and just generally ruined. She wouldn't miss it, her sister on the other hand was quite a different story. Amairs could have been part of a life or death situation and she wouldn't care- and she WAS! When Tanya nodded for them all to head inside, Amaris nodded in agreement. Yes, inside, away from the wind. That was a good idea. A definitely good idea. "You're welcome." she answered with a small nod before following the rest of them to the inside. Oh, epiphany! She had just helped saved a couple of lives during this trip. . .so why did she still feel useless? Well, she wouldn't dwell too much on that. Or the sneeze that she was trying to stiffle. |

Once Ella had been hoisted up onto the desk, Andy turned to Mark. "Hey, I'm going to lay down, apparently smelling the seawater is just making this all worse." She informed him and put her hand on his arm. She picked up the hem on her dress and headed for the stairs to go to cabin 22. |
